I truly love anything Italian; shoes, sunglasses, handbags, Gu, you name it. More importantly, ITALIAN FOOD! Last night, Gu and I took a trip to Southie and had a wonderful dinner at Capo. This is my second time at the restaurant and I was as happy with my experience as I did the first time.
To start, I rewarded myself with a nice summery cocktail after my sweaty ass 5mi run in the morning to jump start day 1 of NYC Marathon training. I ordered the M Street Beach Bum and it was delicious! I stopped myself with 1 cocktail because I have an early day the next day and didn't want to wild out on a Monday. I'm also cutting my alcohol intake by about 75% due to training.
For starters, Gu and I shared the Short Rib Arancini. With pulled short rib covered in fontina oozing out as soon as you cut it open, this shareable bites will not disappoint and will leave enough room for your entree and maybe even dessert.
We also received a little treat from the kitchen. It's really bad that I don't remember what it's called but it's eggplant something. I can tell you one thing though, it was very yum!
Now for the main courses! Ok, I'm not going to lie, I low key ordered the Shrimp Scampi because I've been dying to quote Bruno Mars' lyric from his song "That's What I Like!" - "Julio, serve that scampi!" But listen, I actually do love scampi also so it worked out just fine! I had the option to get either a full plate or a half plate and I decided to go with the half. I'm attempting (for the 100th time) to watch what I eat or at least eat less portions. After all, I do love to indulge because FOOD IS SOOOO FRICKIN' GOOD!
Gu ordered the Chicken Parmigiana with a side of Spaghetti Pomodoro. He loves chicken parm and would order it at all Italian restaurants we go to. I didn't get to try his but his chicken looked like it was on steroids and the perfect all-white cut. The spaghetti looked just right with the perfect amount of sauce.
To wrap up our meal, we shared the Torta Caprese. It was a chocolate almond cake with a side of caramel gelato. It's the perfect amount for a shareable dessert.
We also headed downstairs to their Supper Club to get a little laugh in to burn off some of our dinner. We didn't stay long since we had an early day the next day. But I say, from my experience at Capo, it would be the perfect place for a nice Italian meal with friends, families or significant other.
