What is Girls on the Run? Girls on the Run is a non-profit organization that's been around since 1996 and founded in Charlotte North Carolina. The organization focuses on using running to help girls in 3rd to 8th grades live a lifelong, healthy lifestyle and inspire and motivate them to build confidence as well. "We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams." Girls on the Run International is the parent organization to 225 councils in 49 states and the District of Columbia, serving more than 179,000 girls annually. They served its millionth girl in 2015 and celebrated its 20th birthday in 2016.

Their program is a 24-lesson curricula in which girls will develop and improve competence, feel confidence in who they are, develop strength of character, respond to others and oneself with care, create positive connections with peers and adults and make a meaningful contribution to community and society. Each session is led by trained volunteer coaches that guide and mentor girls. The 10-12 week program concludes with all participants walking or running in celebratory 5k event which gives them a sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals.

The program uses a whole-person approach to elevate emotional, social, mental and physical well-being. Lessons include topics to enable girls to effectively problem solve and remain strong during adolescence. Topics include dealing with self-image and the media, resisting peer-pressure, making healthy decisions and contributing to the community.

When the organization reached out to me and asked me to be a part of their Blogger Social Chair for their upcoming Gala in Boston, I was all about it. Being a runner myself, I didn't even have to think twice about joining on board. I think it's a fantastic organization and now, more than ever, women need to stick and work together and Girls on the Run is a great way to start them while they're young.

On October 20th of this year, they will be having their 3rd annual Girls on the Run Greater (GOTR) Boston Gala which is held at the beautiful Boston College Club in Boston. All proceeds from the gala will go to the Girls on the Run and will provide scholarships to girls' families who couldn't afford to have their daughters in the program otherwise.

I've partnered up with GOTR to giveaway a pair of tickets to the gala, so please head over to my Instagram page and view the latest post for more details on how to enter. If you'd like to attend and purchase tickets and/or to donate, you may do so by CLICKING HERE.

For more information about Girls on the Run, check out their website at https://www.girlsontherun.org.

I hope to see a lot of you at the gala on October 20th!
